Father's Day wknd

Well Jarid's Father's Day technically started last weekend because I was (for once!) ahead of the game and ordered his edible present early. So...he got to open it a week early. Ha. I got him some popcorn from our favorite place in Dallas (Uptown Popcorn..yum!) and put a tag on it saying "You're the best POP around." Cute, right? He has enjoyed his Jalapeno Ranch and Hannah's Dallas blend yumminess. (Naturally I didn't get a pic of it because we dug right in but here's the tag I put on it. So cute. Got it here.

 

When Father's day wknd did finally roll around I was ready. Ha. Morgan insisted Jarid really (really!) wanted a dinosaur so that's what we got him. I put a tag on it that said "You're a Dino-mite Daddy." She also picked out a tumbler with the Batman "pow" on it so we wrote something about "Pow, Boom, POP!" on there, then a pair of shorts with "Roses are Red, These shorts are blue, Happy Father's Day Daddy, We love you!" and then a mason jar of Reese's pieces saying "Daddy we love you to pieces." We Cottrells aren't big gift givers so I wanted to make sure to add all the sweet notes so he knows how much we love & appreciate him (everyday, not just father's day!)

 

 

Saturday we went to his (and my!) favorite lunch spot at Rio Grande Cafe (the Uncle Julio's of NoVa) and sat on the patio in the awesome weather. We walked around Reston Town Center and let the kids play a bit since the streets were blocked off for Taste of Reston. We found a new yummy cupcake place and each picked one out (cookies n cream for me please.) We hit up a park after nap and took some pics with the kids.

 

Sunday we headed out to Leesylvania State Park with some friends. They have a small beach and seriously the kids couldn't have been happier. I couldn't believe how brave they all were with the water. Good thing or bad, I'm not sure! We all had a picnic - if you consider the kids taking a few bites of food in between playing that is - and got some sun before the storm blew in. Couldn't have asked for a better Sunday of beach, friends, and family :)

Cranio what?

Last month our pediatrician referred us to a neurosurgeon for Peyton because his head looked "elongated." She didn't give much info - I think she was trying to not freak me out - beyond they'd set up the appointment and call me with the time/date. I had no idea what questions to ask so naturally when I got home I went to the best source - Dr. Google. Well a few scary searches later we figured out the pedi thought Peyton may have Craniosynostosis. A word I was most definitely not familar with and honestly didn't want to be. Basically it's when a baby's head bones fuse too prematurely. It's considered a "birth defect" and it's cause isn't exactly known (might be genetic, placement in womb, ect all play a part.)

So last week Kerry watched Morgan and Owen and Jarid and I took P to the neurosurgeon. Words I never thought I'd utter. He took one look at him (in his very serious, super smart, neurosurgeon way) and said "why are you here??" I didn't even mind that he seemed to think we were crazy for seeing him because it meant P does NOT have craniosynostosis. Whew. Huge relief. I'm very grateful for our pediatrician though for knowing when to refer us out for another opinion. Even if it meant two weeks of worrying, googling, worrying.

It's a plane!

Jarid: hey I just saw about 40 ambulance, fire trucks and police come into the complex
me: (sleeping) uh huh
Jarid: just thought you'd want to know
me: (as he's leaving to watch again) don't go outside! you don't know what it is!!

Next thing I hear was the door shutting. Grrr. So I got up and sure enough he was gone. Ha. I looked out the window and about half of our neighbors were outside too so I figured it wasn't too dangerous anymore. He came back and told me a plane had crashed into an apartment two buildings over from us. What?? I saw the picture he took and wow. There really was a plane sticking out of an apartment!

So naturally I went out to see it. We could see it from our garage it was so close. Amazingly no one was killed or even severly hurt! The pilot walked out of the plane (in the apartment!) and said "looks like I landed it your apartment." Crazy. Thankfully the family went to bed early and no one was in the living room or things wouldn't have ended so well.

I guess strange things happen when you live close to Dulles!

Month two

Peyton is 2 months! He's outgrown most of his 3 month sleepers now. The boy is LONG. He's the sweetest little guy. When he laughs and smiles his eyes just light up. Oh I love it. And him. His main past times are eating, sleeping, some tummy time, watching brother and sister play, making his bouncer bounce and swinging while watching the trees.

 



7 week comparisions

At 7 weeks I took pictures of all three kids (I seriously can't believe I have 3 kids somedays!) in the same sweet outfit. It's one of my favorites - a sweet white Kissy Kissy sleeper with yellow trim and a tiny little duck on it. There is no doubt my kids are Cottrells. They all look so similar to each other! And if I do say so myself they are all just adorable!
