Whoa what a week...

and it's only Wednesday! I know normally I write just about the kids and what we're up to as family. This is about the family..just in a different way. Let's start with Sunday. Being the genuis I am I dropped my iphone in water. Like an entire glass. I got it out immediately but it wouldn't let me turn it off so I just stuck it in rice and hoped it would work. No such luck. Boooo. Jarid had over the wknd and even go in Sunday night. Couple that with cold weather in late April and the wknd was kinda lame. Ha. Guess we have those every once in a while.

Monday morning Morgan had her opthomolgist appt - meaning she had to get her eyes dilated. Which nobody likes...but especially not toddlers! Jarid usually takes her to these appts but they scheduled a last minute meeting that morning so I had to rally and take *all* the kids by myself. Eekkk. This would be only the 2nd time since we've had 3 kids (3 and under!) that I've done this so it was kind of a big deal. Morgan just so happened to wake up with (wait for it...) pink eye. Seriously. She's never had pink eye and she gets it the morning of her doc appt when we haven't even been around many other kids. Weird. All the kids did excellent and I was so proud of how well they behaved in a hard situation (waiting in a doctor's office for that long is just not fun for little ones!) and of myself for handling it - ha!

Peyton also turned ONE month on Monday...already!! Happy first month of life to this little sweetie.

That night poor Jarid had yet another night meeting in preparation for a big meeting in Richmond on Tuesday and the kids were sooo super rowdy. Oh and putting in M's eye drops for her pink eye was a special kind of fun...whew! Tuesday Jarid left early and the day just started off wrong (and early!) Owen woke up at 630...that is not a wake up time. Seriously I had just gone back to sleep after nursing the baby. Needless to say Owen was quite cranky all morning and him and Morgan just kept getting into little fights. They usually play so well together so it was frustrating all of us! I may (or may not) have had a little cry in the kitchen while eating an Oreo because it was just so exhausting. Ha.

They played their favorite game of "pile" as I call it which really just means they grab as much stuff as they can and pile it all up to hide under it/climb on it/lay on it/whatever. Tuesday they did this to "hide from mommy" - ummm on top of the huge pile of stuff. I hadn't touched it by the time Jarid came home b/c I just didn't have the energy to put up allllll that stuff or work on them to do it. Look at this mess!

He was exhausted from his day so after dinner he took a short nap. During this short rest the kids managed to: 1. try to light the house on fire. No really, they turned on the burner (which we usually take the knob off but hadn't yet b/c I was still cleaning from dinner) and I had a plate that was drying on top of it. Thankfully I was right there and nothing happened but wow. 2. They spilled water on our favorite piece of art work that J's sister made. Again, thankfully it wasn't ruined but I wasn't sure for a minute there. 3. They proceeded to step through said water - which by itself isn't a big deal - and since they wrote all over their feet with marker earlier in the day they got color alllll over the carpet where they stepped. In a matter of like 10 minutes all this happened. Sweet Peyton slept through all the mayheim and I woke Jarid up when it sounded like a war zone in here when Owen and Morgan started yelling at each other b/c they were both getting overtired. Mercifully they went to sleep quickly. Ahhh.

Today has been a pretty normal day except we had painters in and out of our place to paint a part of the wall that was damaged by one of our neighbors water heaters flooding. Never easy to keep kids or dogs out of contractors way but Jarid was home to help handle the chaos. It helps keep less crazed when your kids are this cute.

While I'm talking "mommy stuff" I'll add that these three kids are certainly showing me all the things I was wrong about motherhood *before* I had kids. ha. Even when I had Morgan (who was seriously the world's easiest baby...I kid you not) I would say (outloud...banging hand on door now for that) "I don't understand what's so hard about being a mommy to a baby?"(enter Owen) or "What is with all these moms saying they have spit up on everything they own?" (Peyton..world's spittiest baby) or "ohhh that little girl is talking back to her mom and her mom isn't doing anything about it?" (umm..hello almost 4 yr old daughter!) Of course, I still think I'm the best mom to these kids as I can be but whoa I was a *much* better mom before I became one. Ha ha ha.

It's just been one of those weeks that makes you say "is it Friday yet?" like 100x over! Thankfully these type of weeks and few and far between. Whew!! So...is it Friday yet?? No really...

One month

I know every mom of a newborn says "where does the time go?" - it's just so crazy has fast it goes when you have older kids too. Baby Peyton has been such an awesome little addition to our family and we couldn't love him more. Here's a few things that he's been "up to."

- He's grown out of most of his newborn sleepers (he's just too tall for them!), he's in size 1 diapers and wears 0-3 month clothes.
- At 5 weeks he weighed 10 lbs, 14 oz and was 22 in! (He was 8 lb, 1 oz and 20 in at birth)
- His favorite things include: being held by all of us, being talked to, his paci and his thumb when he can find it, kisses and hugs, the milkies and most surprisingly of all for one of our kids - his crib!

Here are some pictures from month one  :)

Baby P brings the visitors

We are really a lucky little family. Not only do we have 3 precious children, 2 sweet dogs and each other - we have a huge support group of family and friends. I don't know what we'd do without them. Jarid's parents were here a few days before we had Peyton and stayed with the kids while we were in the hospital and then for a week after while we made the transition from a 4 person family to 5. We only had a few days going it alone before my mom got to town. She stayed with us for a week and helped with the kids in the mornings (when we needed that extra hour or two of sleep!) and of course giving loads of attention to all three babies. The day after she left my dad and stepmom got here! They spent so much time with Morgan and Owen and helped keep them feeling special and then got plenty of cuddle time in with the baby too.
We know how blessed we are to have our families travel to meet our newest addition! Thanks for all the time and energy it took you guys to get here. I think all of them probably had more of a "vacation" once they got home though because these kids will wear a person out. Ha ha ha!!

Cherry blossoms

So I've literally loved cherry blossom trees for as long as I can remember. I have several decorating pieces in my house and even my background on this blog are cherry blossoms! I went every year to the Dallas Arboretum during their 2 week bloom time to see them. But this year....I got to see them in D.C.! There are 2000 cherry blossoms surrounding the Tidal Basin and the Memorials.

We went on a Tuesday - Jarid took the full day off (he's been taking half days here and there since Peyton was born to make mornings easier on me, the kids and him!) and my mom was in town. It was NUTS. Like a billion people decided to go since the weather was so amazing that day too. Plus they bloomed really late this year due to all our late March snow. We parked pretty far away from the Tidal Basin (like I said - every one was out that day) but even the walk there was gorgeous.

Once we got there you could see the Jefferson Memorial, the Capitol and the Washington Monument in full view. I was jsut in awe. Seriously. I know it sounds geeky but I've really always wanted to go to D.C. in the spring *just* to see these cherry blossoms!

The kids had a blast of course being outside in the (finally!) nice weather. We took a picnic lunch and ate in the shade under the blossoms across the river from the Jefferson Memorial. I didn't take nearly as many pictures as I wanted having three kids and all (especially two water loving toddlers being so close to a very tempting body of water!) but it was still a very fabulous way to spend an afternoon.

Kids didn't nap on the way home so it ended up being an early evening for them which was kinda nice for us adults - since we were exhausted too!
