4th of July - in the nation's capitol!

We were pretty excited to be here in the D.C. area for the 4th of July. It was such an awesome sight - I think everyone should come here at least once to see fireworks over the Washington Monument. The fireworks coordinate with music and it's really just an amazing event. We parked and walked around downtown for a bit and then headed into the Flight Museum. I am really going to love being this close to these awesome (and free!) museums! The kids loved looking at the planes and it was nice to be outside of the heat for a bit. Around 6pm we started to make our way towards the fireworks area to claim a seat. We got a great one and just settled down. Owen took a nap on Jarid's shoulder and Morgan just played around in the grass. When the fireworks started it was amazing how quiet it got around us except for the music and the booms. Like anything else watching it all through the kids eyes make it about 100x better :) They both loved it!
It was pretty late when we got out of there so we gave the kids a "wipey bath" (ha!) and put them in their pjs hoping they'd fall asleep on the way home. Morgan fell asleep right away but Owen waited til we got home. Both kids did so awesome and we're SO glad we got to do this our first fourth of July in the nation's capitol!
